Bookbinding Workshop

Coptic Bookbinding workshop

Join us as we explore the fascinating world of bookbinding, this time, specifically, Coptic bookbinding.

Coptic bookbinding is a historical bookbinding technique, used by early Christians in Egypt, where sections of paper are sewn together through their folds and then attached to the spine with a chain stitch. It is known for its exposed spine and ability to allow a book to lay flat when opened.

During the workshop, your experienced and knowledgeable tutor will guide you through the making process to create not one but two beautiful books, each with different stitches. There will be a choice of papers for the front and back covers of your two books, which can be complimented with a choice of coloured threads. Each book will measure approximately 11cm x 10cm, x 2.5cm.

This workshop is suitable for complete beginners as well as those with previous experience. By the end of the workshop, as well as heading home with your two books, you will have the skills and know-how to make more books for friends and family.

The workshop will run from 10.00am until 4.00pm, with a pause for a ploughman-style lunch. Your lunch and all the materials to make your two books will be provided, as will a workshop apron for you to wear during your day.

Come along and enjoy the process, and learn how to make fancy books for every occasion.

Places on this workshop are limited to 8.
